Simply put, MAG(GIE)NIFICENT is a lifestyle blog detailing the world through the eyes of a recent college grad attempting to navigate through adult life.
If Maggienificent was a girl in your third grade class, she would probably be the one whose day was ruined when it wasn’t her turn to feed the pet turtle. She would always have skinned knees, because her shoes (with ninja turtle laces) were just slightly too big for her. Maggienificent probably was always a little too sassy to the substitute teacher, but it was all out of jest and she really didn’t mean to call the sub “Caterpillar Lip.” She just thought it was funny. Maggienificent wasn’t allowed to have a desk near others, because she got Unsatisfactory on “Disturbs Others” and “Talks While the Teacher is Talking.”
MAG(GIE)NIFICENT is a little much. But you like her that way.
I started Maggienficent because frankly, I had to. It was a grade for an elective writing class. The teacher challenged us to blog about something we are good at or that we loved to do. And of course, when faced with a question without an answer from a professor, I Googled it.
- A beauty blog wasn’t the answer, because hell, I don’t know how to properly use an eyelash curler.
- A cooking blog wasn’t the answer, because I’m still trying to master the art of Kraft Mac and Cheese.
- A crafting blog wasn’t the answer, because my homemade ornaments from elementary school get hung in the back of the Christmas tree every year while my brother’s are front and center.
But then I realized that trying to make a blog like that is exactly the problem with blogs today. We are constantly comparing and trying to immolate picture-perfect bloggers with picture-perfect lives. Get your hair this way, do your makeup this way. Wear your clothes this way. But these bloggers have an edit button to get their lives to be picture perfect. Life doesn’t come with an edit button.
I want people to read Maggienficient and say, “wow...that girl’s life is perfectly average.” (Just with a little bit more cursing).
